It was director Karthik Subbaraj who brought the well known theater artiste cum actor Cheenu Mohan back into films with Iraivi in 2016. Following the 62 year old Cheenu Mohan's untimely demise due to a massive heart-attack on Thursday, the Petta director has revealed that the actor was offered a small role in the Rajinikanth starrer (whose trailer was unveiled today) but couldn't take up due to his health issues.
Recalling his memories of Cheenu Mohan, Karthik Subbaraj was quoted by a leading newspaper as saying,"..He was very dedicated on the set and used to be with us throughout the shoot. He acted in our web series as well. In fact, I once again contacted him to play a small role in Petta some five months ago but he coulsn't take up since he was unwell.."

Cheenu Mohan since Iraivi was also seen in Aandavan Kattalai, Sketch, Kolamaavu Kokila and Mani Ratnam's Chekka Chivantha Vaanam which also happened to be his last film. His last rites are to take place at Chennai Anna Nagar on December 29, 2018.
