The upcoming Tamil film TN 2026 has landed in controversy ahead of its release, with Desiya Makkal Sakthi Katchi urging the Election Commission of India to stall the film until the completion of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
In an official letter dated April 6, 2026, addressed to the Election Commission, Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer, and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the party raised concerns over the film’s content and timing. The complaint states that the trailer of TN 2026, which has gone viral on social media, appears to depict current political scenarios and allegedly references actor-turned-politician Vijay.
The party argued that the film has the potential to influence voters during the election period, thereby raising concerns over a possible violation of the Model Code of Conduct. It also highlighted that the film is scheduled for release on April 10, while polling for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections is set to take place on April 23, suggesting that the timing could impact the electoral process.

The letter further cited the case of Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, which was reportedly stalled and placed under review due to its potential electoral influence, and sought similar action against TN 2026.
Requesting immediate intervention, the party has urged authorities to defer the film’s release until the election process is completed, in order to ensure free and fair polls.
As of now, there has been no official response from the Election Commission or the makers of TN 2026.
