Raghava Lawrence Confirms Political Entry, Party Announcement Expected Soon

Raghava Lawrence has confirmed his entry into politics, joining the growing list of Tamil film personalities to make the transition. In a post on X and an accompanying 18-minute video, the actor-director said that while politics was never part of his original plan, changing circumstances have brought him to this point.

Lawrence traced his political awakening to the Jallikattu protests of 2017, which he said revealed to him the power of youth-driven movements. He spoke at length about his long friendship with NTK leader Seeman and his deep admiration for Rajinikanth, whom he described as both a father figure and elder brother. He recalled throwing his support behind Rajinikanth's anticipated political entry and the disappointment when health issues forced the superstar to step back.

His mother's reluctance was a recurring theme throughout the video. She had long opposed the idea, calling politics a dirty game — but Lawrence said she softened her stance after watching actor Vijay's landslide election victory, which gave her faith that good people could succeed in the arena.

Lawrence did not name a party in the announcement, but said details would follow soon. Speculation is strong that he will align with CM Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and contest from the Trichy East constituency — the seat Vijay won during the recent assembly elections before resigning ahead of his swearing-in.

On the film front, Lawrence is currently shooting Benz, directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan, and is also directing Kanchana 4 — the fifth instalment in the franchise — which he is producing and writing as well.
