Moondru Per Moondru Kaadhal Review

Moondru Per Moondru Kaadhal’(MPMK) had the most recognizable cast and crew members among all the movies released on May day. Unfortunately, it ended up getting the least number of screens and also lower pre-release expectations when compared to ‘Ethir Neechal’ and ‘Soodhu Kavvum’.

Vasanth’s film has always been clear and bold in his approach on showcasing relationships. Even though his last film ‘Satham Podathey’ did not garner support from the audience, his characterization was much spoken about. But, Vasanth misses his target by quite some distance in MPMK. .

The Plot

As the title suggests, the movie revolves around three love stories. Varun (Vemal) and Anjana (Lasini), Guna (Cheran) and Mallika (Muktha Bhanu), Harris (Arjun) and Divya (Surveen Chawla) are the three couples. The story revolves around these three couples and their love.

Performances

Vemal struggles throughout the first half. His performance looks very amateurish and he definitely needs to concentrate more on scripts like ‘Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga’ and ‘Kalakalappu’. Cheran comes as a do-gooder and has given a measured performance. Kudos to costume designer for making him wear youthful tees. Arjun as a swimming coach is apt for his role and he has come up with a credible performance.

Muktha Bhanu manages to impress the audience with her expressions in the second half. Surveen Chawla looks beautiful and is a part of a sensuous rain song. Her acting passes the muster, while Lasini does not leave a mark.

Technicalities

Yuvan Shankar Raja’s songs have already become chartbusters. But, one would wonder if the visuals do justice to the songs. ‘Stop the paatu’ song definitely needed better picturization. It looks like as if the song is meant to only introduce Ritwik Varun. Bhojan K. Dinesh’s camera has captured some lush greenery in the first half and his swimming pool shots are good too. Editing could have been better as the movies runs a little over 2.5 hours, and does test your patience at times.

Direction - Vasanth

Director Vasanth has missed to make an engaging screenplay. The first half with Vemal and Lasini will really test your endurance. The linking of all three love stories lack conviction. The dialogues are mostly bland and more often than not, the characters in the movie are the only ones who laugh for their jokes.

One cannot rule out the fact that there are few good sequences. Cheran’s role of a person who rehabilitates prisoners is a novel concept. And, Arjun passes on some motivation with his powerful dialogues. But, these happen too late in the film, when you have already lost interest in the movie.

Bottomline

The movie is let down by uninspiring screenplay and amateurish performances by few actors.
