MeToo: Susi Ganesan latest to be accused from Kollywood after Vairamuthu, Radha Ravi, John Vijay, Karthik!

 

A week since lyricist Vairamuthu's name was taken by multiple women alleging sexual misconduct, several well known names from the Tamil film industry (playback singer Karthik, actor Radha Ravi, actor TM Karthik) have come under the scanner for the same. Latest to be named in this list is director Susi Ganesan who is known for directing films like Five Star (debut film), Virumbigiren, Thiruttu Payalae series and Kanthasaamy.
 
Susi Ganesan has been accused of misconduct by Leena Manimekalai who is a documentary film-maker and who first shared her story without naming the perpetrator in February of 2017, when a Malayalam film industry's actress was abducted and sexually assaulted. The incident dates back to 2005 when Susi Ganesan apparently offered to drop Leena at her home at night, from a studio where they were both in attendance for an interview.

 
She writes, "I got in the car, trusting the "director"..After a few minutes of boarding the car, the tone of his voice suddenly changed.The sound of the expensive car's central lock system roared loudly and subsided.(meaning he locked the doors). He took the phone from my lap, turned it off and threw it somewhere inside the car. He threatened me to come to his apartment.

I became pale from shock and was motionless for a few minutes. Then I gathered courage and asked him to let me down in a courteous voice. Then I begged. I threatened to break the car door. I shouted. I usually have a small knife in my bag..It came in handy that day. It was that small knife that made that director scoundrel to make him drop me near my home, give me my phone back."

Leena further elaborates in her 2017 Facebook post that she did not have the courage back in 2005 to report the incident or even share it with her close ones. She also states that this is one of the many bitter truths buried within her.
