Udhayam NH4 - Reasons for Lip Sync Issues

Siddharth and Vetrimaran's Udhayam NH4 got excellent response from fans for its first half and muted feedback for its second half. Many expressed disappointment about noticeably obvious lip sync issues and concluded that it was a Telugu dubbed movie. As the word was getting out, Siddharth tried to dispel the fast spreading rumour that the movie is originally shot in Telugu and later dubbed to Tamil. He made the following statement on his twitter page,

"Udhayam-NH4 was shot only in Tamil. The slight issues with lip sync are due to dialogue modifications during the dubbing process. Many dialogues were modified in post production either to make the fast paced thriller 'Udhayam' easier to comprehend or for censor issues. No lines were recorded in Telugu during shoot."

Stirring the "Tamil - Kannadiga" Conflict?

The reason that was made aware to the censor officials is that the movie's second half originally was centered around the conflicts between Tamil and Kannadigas. The second half had a number of sharp exchange of sensitive dialogues that was feared could stir up some controversies. This episode was supposed to be the highlight of the movie when it was originally written.

However a few days even prior to submission for censor certification, Vetrimaran and his team proactively decided to mute those dialogues, rewrite new dialogues (compromising on lip sync) to avoid any regional tensions. After the censor show, censor officials appreciated the National award winner Vetrimaran for acting responsibly and setting an example to others by self-policing.

After hearing the audience feedback, if the original dialogues had been retained, the movie would have had the raw intensity usually seen in Vetri's products and the fans would have no reasons to complain about the lip sync issues.
