The status of Indian 3, starring Kamal Haasan and directed by S Shankar, is said to be uncertain after the underwhelming response to Indian 2.
As per circulating reports, Shankar has reportedly informed Lyca Productions of his plans to move forward with his long-cherished project Velpari. The production house has allegedly been given a window of two to three months to decide whether they want to proceed with completing and releasing Indian 3. If no call is taken within that period, the filmmaker is expected to shift his full focus to Velpari, which is said to be conceived as a large-scale historical epic planned as a trilogy.
The situation arises in the wake of Indian 2 not meeting box office expectations, despite marking the return of Kamal Haasan as the vigilante Senapathy from the 1996 film Indian.
Notably, the production of Indian 2 had witnessed several delays earlier, during which Shankar went on to direct Game Changer starring Ram Charan. When work resumed on Indian 2, the director reportedly had to juggle both projects simultaneously.
However, these developments remain unconfirmed at the moment, as neither Shankar nor Lyca Productions has issued an official statement on the future of Indian 3.
