Directed by debutant Sivakumar Murugesan, Thaai Kizhavi released on February 27 to positive responses from audiences and critics. The Radikaa Sarathkumar-led comedy drama has brought life back to theatre business with strong footfalls. According to trade reports, the film earned around Rs.5 crore on its tenth day, taking its India total to about Rs. 41.7 crore.
Overseas, the film has collected more than Rs. 9.3 crore, pushing its worldwide gross to around Rs.51 crore, while Tamil Nadu alone has contributed over Rs.35 crore. Trends on BookMyShow indicate the film is still going strong over the weekend, with bookings crossing 750K and heading towards the 1 million mark. The film has also surprised exhibitors and the trade and is now on track to gross Rs.50 crore in the state by the coming weekend.
Thaai Kizhavi revolves around a family searching for a hidden treasure after their matriarch Pavunuthaayi (Radikaa) falls ill. The film also stars Singam Puli, Arul Doss, Bala Saravanan, Munishkanth, Ilavarasu, George Maryan, Muthukumar, and Raichal Rabecca in key roles.
The film is produced by Sudhan Sundaram under Passion Studios and presented by Sivakarthikeyan’s SK Productions, with music by Nivas K Prasanna, cinematography by Vivek Vijayakumar, and editing by San Lokesh.
