Parthiban apologises to Trisha after controversial remark at event

Actor-director R Parthiban has issued an apology to Trisha Krishnan after his remarks about her at a recent event sparked criticism online.

In a video released on his YouTube channel, Parthiban said the comment was made unintentionally during a rapid-fire round. When Trisha’s photo appeared on screen, he said the audience repeatedly shouted “Kundhavai,” referring to her character in Ponniyin Selvan. Attempting to respond humorously, he made a remark suggesting that “Kundhavai should stay at home so that problems don’t arise,” which drew applause from the crowd.

Parthiban said he later realised the comment could have been avoided and had asked the organisers not to include that segment in the event’s broadcast. However, a clip from the event surfaced online, prompting backlash.

Earlier, Trisha had also responded to the issue on social media, stating that “a microphone doesn’t make a comment intelligent or humorous.”

In his apology, Parthiban added that he did not intend to cause distress and reiterated his support for women’s independence, stating that women possess immense creative and social power.

The controversy comes amid ongoing social media speculation linking Trisha with actor-politician Vijay following their recent public appearance together.
