Baahubali, Mersal, Kaala most talked about on twitter: Vanakkam Twitter Event Highlights

 

Vanakkam Twitter event was conducted by the twitter India office at Chennai today and well-known faces like actor Kamal Haasan, TV anchor cum host Divya Dharshini, film critics, trade analysts and others presided over the event. It brought to light how in recent times, twitter has seen an upsurge in film mentions from India, especially the Tamil and the Telugu film industries, which are also two of the biggest film industries in the country. Twitter's head representatives revealed that 40 million tweets in 2017 were about the Indian Film industry of which 50% were about Tamil and Telugu films. They also said that Mersal was the most talked about hashtag that year and the announcement of Kaala registered a dramatic upsurge in twitter trends. Added to these two, the Baahubali franchise saw the most number of mentions on twitter in recent years.
 
Since the aim of the event was to spread the word on how to effectively use twitter, the reps also talked about movies like SarkarBharat Ane Nenu and Sanju making optimum use of their platform to gain maximum reach. Sun Pictures, producers of Vijay starrer Sarkar launched the first look poster of the film through the Twitter moments, a feature which helped in a faster and wider reach. And ever since Kaala was announced, the twitter team have been active in promoting every aspect of the film like teasers, trailers, posters, Q&As in the right possible way.

For Bharath Ane Nenu, the team applied a unique promotional strategy of launching their film through live streaming on twitter and in case of Sanju, where the lead actor Ranbir Kapoor does not hold a twitter account, he was made to use the producers Fox Star's twitter handle and interact with his twitter fans on Fathers' Day. They also cited Vijay TV's daily snippet updates of the Bigg Boss Tamil show, as a good example of how quality video content helps in getting more traction.
