Kaala Day 1 Box Office Report: A Safe Start

 

For the first time in the history of Tamil Cinema, Superstar Rajinikanth's Kaala had very low pre-release buzz and expectations, compared to his previous outings. This could be due to a variety of reasons - be it Rajinikanth's political entry, his controversial speeches or his previous outing with Pa.Ranjith (Kabali), that by Rajinikanth's own admittance, could not meet the expectation of the masses.
 
Despite the low buzz (for a Rajini film i.e), Kaala was off to a decent start, collecting Rs. 12.05 crore (gross) from day 1 in Tamil Nadu and Rs. 20 Cr+ (gross) in total within India. Here is the collection split up of Kaala from the opening day in the country.
 
Tamil Nadu: Rs. 12.05 Cr
Andhra Pradesh/Telengana: Rs. 5 Cr
Kerala: Rs. 1.63 Cr
ROI & Hindi Version: Rs. 2 Cr
Karnataka: Not released on June 7

While the numbers are pretty decent, the collections are nowhere near to the Superstar's standards. However, since the word-of-mouth seems quite favorable for the film, Kaala is expected to make a good collection by the end of this weekend.
