Films crews of Thalapathy 62, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam blamed for leaving 'trash' behind!

In a report carried out by a leading news paper, the film crews of Thalapathy 62 and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam have been blamed for leaving 'trash' behind in the ecologically sensitive area of Muttukadu estuary in Chennai. The allegations were levelled by activists of the Bay of Life Foundation which regularly conducts beach clean-ups at Chennai. They were quoted as saying,

“This happened last week -- around the 24th --  at Kovalam... When the shoot was on (for Chekka Chivantha Vaanam), the surfers were asked to go elsewhere. When they came back, they saw that there was a whole lot of glass on the beach. There were also broken bottles and an abandoned windshield. They found some empty cartridges and other blanks that had been fired..."

Apparently whenever there is a shoot, the film crew pays the local villagers money to clean up after they leave but since the mess was still there, the activists were enraged. The activists were also found fuming over the shoot that A.R. Murugadoss and Vijay seemed to have carried out a few months ago. About team Thalapathy 62, they said,

“They (team Thalapathy 62) had a huge set, erected on nearly half an acre of land. We told them since it is a 10-day shoot, there will be a lot of trash and they will have to clean it up. They agreed. They took five days to dismantle the set after the shoot. But they took back only what they could reuse. They left behind a lot of trash. Parts of a wooden ship was abandoned by the crew. We had to reel it in and dispose it,"

Meanwhile, it has also been reported that Vijay Sethupathi has assured that it won't happen again and Mani Ratnam's team has reached out to the Bay Life foundation and agreed to help them clean the mess that they left behind. But Executive Producer Siva Ananth of Madras Talkies has also been quoted as saying,

"Kovalam was cleaned up after our shoot. We had about 20 men cleaning up the place of our trash after we packed up...Once we cleaned up our trash and left, we can't be blamed for the pre-existing condition of the place; the fact that the place was littered with trash and broken glass anyway before our shoot is not our responsibility,"
