Movies This Week: Avengers Infinity War dominates the scene

The huge release of Disney's Avengers: Infinity War was only met with more advantage as the Indian film industry throughout saw no big releases. Apart from A.L.Vijay's Diya and Vikram Prabhu starrer Pakka, the other domestic releases that hit theatre screens in Chennai were Daas Dev (Hindi), Aravidante Athidhikal (Malayalam) and Uncle (Malayalam).

Diya/Kanam (Tamil - Telugu) (Review Here)
Strictly made in the signature style of director A.L. Vijay, Sai Pallavi, Naga Shourya starrer Diya / Kanam is not a horror film as opposed to word on the street. Its a highly emotional film that also has a spirit in it and the audience and the critics both agree that the film is worth a watch.  The film has garnered an aggregate of 52% in our film ratings. Pakka(Tamil) (Review Here)
Pakka is your typical romantic entertainer set in a rural backdrop. The film has Vikram Prabhu in a dual role with Nikki Galrani and Bindu Madhavi playing female leads and has Soori for the comic portions. The film is not up to a good start and has garnered 30% on our ratings. (Movie Page Here).

Daas Dev (Hindi) (Movie Page Here)
One of the many adaptions of the novel Devdas, Daas Dev marks the return of Sudhir Mishra's style of film. While the critics have been see-sawing between average to above average on their verdicts, the audience seem to have liked the film mostly. Starring Rahul Bhat, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richha Chaddha among others, the film stands at a rating of 53%.

Aravidante Athidhikal (Malayalam) (Movie Page Here) (Review Here)
This Vineeth Sreenivasan starrer is about a matured man and his emotional journey of finding his biological mother, running his foster parent's lodge and other aspects of life. This feel-good film has been mostly been given a thumbs-up for a one-time watch.

Uncle (Malayalam) (Movie Page Here)
Uncle is a suspense film, the suspense being whether or nor Mammootty who is a friend of a college-going girl's father has any malicious intentions towards the girl, when he offers her to be dropped from Ooty to Kerala as believed by the girl's father. While the critics have mixed response over the film, the audience on the other hand seemed to have it a 61% in our movie ratings.

Avengers Infinity War (English) (Review Here)

Despite being an International film, Avengers:Infinity War is what has dominated the theatres and the minds of the Indian audience, thanks to extensive promotions and buzz on the internet. The first part to the end of a 10 year long Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) story, Infinity War has opened to a huge positive response and its screening availability in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and 2D, 3D and Imax 3D has only worked as an added advantage.
