Prashanth Vs Suriya : Trouble for Thaana Serntha Kootam

Vignesh Sivan directed Thaana Serntha Kootam featuring Suriya in the lead is facing a major court case from actor Prashanth 's home banner Staar Movies. With the movie scheduled to release on January 12, 2018 and a court hearing happening today, the fate of the film remains to be known.

Right from its inception, director Vignesh Sivan has maintained that TSK is not a remake of Special 26, a Hindi film starring Bollywood star Akshay Kumar. However post the teaser release, the director clarified that while it is not a remake, both films are inspired from the same real-life incident that took place in the 80's. Shanthi Thiyagarajan (actor Prashanth's mother) owned Staar Movies moved TSK to court, as the banner already claims to hold the remake rights of Special 26 for all south indian languages.

Dispute is said to have erupted when Staar Movies set aside their 3 year (2014-2017) valid rights to RPP Film Factory in September, 2016 for Rs. 1.5 crore but Studio Green also decided to make a film on the same subject. Shanthi Thiagarajan moved court 3 days ago and appealed to stall the film's release as she claims TSK's producers had not sought their consent. A hearing today on the same will decide the fate of this Suriya starrer.
