MovieCrow Annual Rankings - Top Tamil Actresses of 2017

This year saw a lot of Tamil films spearheaded by actresses. The heartening fact is that most of these movies had solid storylines, which provided ample scope for them to play out of their skins. Check out our annual rankings of the best Tamil actresses of 2017!

1. Aditi Balan (Aruvi)

Absolutely no surprises here. Aditi Balan, the heart and soul of Aruvi, bags the first place for her pitch-perfect and intense performance in the film. She portrayed a wide range of emotions and won everyone's heart, to an extent where some people have decided to name their daughters 'Aruvi'. All we've got to say is "We love you Aruvi." As she rightly conveys in the film, there can't be a better way to express our love for her performance.

2. Andrea (Taramani, Aval, Thupparivaalan)

Although she in the tinsel town for more than a decade, Andrea remains one of the most underutilized and underrated actresses. 2017 has got to be the most productive year for her acting career as she aced in 3 well-written roles belonging to different genres. A single mother yearning for love, a horrified housewife and a fiery antagonist - she played them all with great panache.

3. Anushka (Baahubali 2: The Conclusion)

Anushka as the regal Devasena gave goosebumps to the audience with her majestic performance in the second part of Baahubali. It'd have been very difficult for her to take on Ramya Krishnan, who is a dominating performer herself, but Anushka managed to do it convincingly.

4. Sshivada (Adhe Kangal)

Sshivada raised quite a few eyeballs with her noteworthy act in Adhe Kangal. She pulled off the complex role of a deceiving love interest in style. The movie's impact might have diluted if not for Sshivada's authoritative performance.

5. Nithya Menen (Mersal)

In a film that has Vijay in the lead, it's next to impossible for someone to grab the audience's attention. However, Nithya Menen did it with her endearing performance in Mersal. We wish she gets to act in more such roles, which give her the scope she deserves.

6. Indhuja (Meyadha Maan)

In a rare scenario, Indhuja received more acclamations than the leading lady of Meyadha Maan for her realistic performance as Sudarvizhi. Be it the 'Thangachi' song or the emotional breaking down sequence, she aced throughout the film.

Notable Mentions

  • Nayanthara's stellar performance as the earnest collector Madhivadhani in Aramm elevated a little gem to one of the most talked-about movies of the year.

  • Revathi's subtle yet matured performace made Dhanush's directorial debut Pa Paandi a memorable outing.

  • Ramya Krishnan was a live wire in the Rajamatha role in Baahubali 2. She yet again proved that her screen presence remains unmatched in author-backed roles.
