Michael Rayappan Vs Simbu : A blow-by-blow account of what led to the AAA controversy

A while ago, we had reported on floating speculations of a red card being issued to actor Simbu over complaints of a film's production delay. Producer Gnanavel Raja, who holds a position with TFPC was even heard indirectly hinting about it during a recent public gathering. Now, putting all speculations to rest, it has been revealed that there is indeed a complaint against the said actor and it has been registered by Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan (AAA) producer Michael Rayappan.

The detailed account of what led to this unfortunate complaint has been explained by the Global Infotainment producer, who claims he has been pushed to the brink as follows : (MovieCrow does not hold any subjective opinions in this)

April 9, 2016 - Office Pooja

The plan was to begin AAA's shooting by May-end. During the pre-production stage, Simbu kept changing his preferences for locations. When we ourselves finalized Dindukal, he refused to come for the shoot. He said there were no star hotels. He said he will not come to shoot in public place and if there was too much crowd, he would stop shooting. He said he would not come on Sundays.

July 9, 2016 - Shooting begins at Dindukal

The shooting date and the call-sheet timings were decided by Simbu himself. But he never showed up once on the said day and time.

1st Schedule

A the end of 1st schedule, when we were to can a song with Simbu in the same look, he said that Shriya wasn't good and she needs to be replaced. Because of this, till the end we never were able to shoot that song. The reason for him refusing to shoot with Shriya is known only to him.

2nd Schedule

  • With the same look, we had planned to shoot in Dubai. Simbu refused to come citing Dubai's summer and suggested London instead. After struggling for 2 months, he finally agreed. In between he said he will begin shooting post the reduction of 90 kgs but ended up doing nothing. With no choice left, we decided to go ahead with make up on the same look and conduct shooting at Chennai.
  • After giving out measurements for Prosthetic make-up, he refused to put on citing the 3 hours of time it took and instead suggested to use CG on his face .
  • Despite all these demands, he never turned up for shoots. His intention was to delay the film somehow or the other.
  • Even during the shoots at Maayajaal, he used rooms at ECR. Just because EP Subbu (Rama Narayanan) asked for the details of his room charges, Simbu demanded that he be replaced from the film else he wouldn't turn up for the shoots and accordingly EP Subbu was replaced.
  • Before 3rd schedule, we had given advance for a song shoot at Mumbai and in the middle of the set work, he stopped the shooting.

3rd Schedule
  • Simbu suggested Singapore. Somehow we decided to convert Thailand to Singapore. But after the locations were decided he kept changing Pooja Kumar, Neetu Chandra, Sana Khan as his heroines.
  • 10 days before the film crew's schedule, Simbu's assistants were already holidaying at Thailand in my money.
  • After the film's crew left, when Simbu had not gone I went to his house to check on it. He told me to release the film as two parts or else the film will take upto a year and half for release. He said he will act in the second part without extra charges and wanted the first half to release by Ramzan.
  • I tired convincing him a lot but since he did not budge, I called up the director and asked him to return to Chennai.

Music Delay

When the director and I decided to release the film by June 23. Since a film cannot be released with just one song, we decided to add another. Despite the agreement for 5 songs, in a span of one and a half years, Yuvan had just completed one song. The reason behind this delay is know only to Yuvan and Simbu as neither I nor the director were kept in loop about the song developments.

Dubbing in Bathroom

For the last role Simbu did not wish to and did not come for shooting. The director after a lot of efforts convinced him and Simbu let us shoot at his house. But even then he used to turn up only at 3 A.M in the morning. Since he did to wish to step outside for dubbing, he dubbed from his home's bathroom. If there was a pending remuneration as he claims, would he have accepted to dubbing? When we took it to 4 Frames Radhakrishnan, he said the quality was very bad and he wouldn't be able to mix it. Since we were near the release date and censor too had to be done, we bought a Voice Modulation Software for Rs. 75, 000 and managed.

Simbu's Response

I will reply if a complaint is raised upon me by a producer during a film's shoot. I am not obliged to reply to anyone. There is no rule in existence like that. I will never speak ill of any of my film's producers. If there comes a point when action is taken against me, then I will put forth my response.
