That the BJP has had issues with actor Vijay's film Mersal is no new news. But the former's objection to the latter's depiction of Digital India and the faulty analysis of GST has led to social media battles (Mersal Vs Modi being one of them) and heated online exchanges between the BJP representatives and supporters of Vijay and Mersal. One such incident has gone overboard and has led to the arrest of a Vijay fan. 

The fan in question goes by the name S. Thirumurugan has been arrested for posting derogatory comments about the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Facebook (A part of his post includes how the PM was "roaming around the country and will be taught a lesson"). The arrestee who commented using the FB name Sachin Thiru was reported by the BJP district secretary and has been booked under CrPC section 505 (conducing public mischief ) and IPC section 67 IT ACT, 2008 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form).
