Vijay's Mersal receives support from former union minister Shashi Tharoor 


The Vichar Vibhag of the Kerala Congress Pradesh Committee had organized a protest meeting in Thiruvananthapuram today in support of the Vijay starrer Mersal. After the protest, former Union minister Shashi Tharoor spoke about the reason the protest and why they were slamming the ruling political party BJP. Tharoor has been quoted as follows :


"The protest is against the BJP' s attempt to infringe on democratic rights and freedom of expression..They made an announcement that Vijay is Joseph Vijay..whether we go for a film after looking at the religion of an actor"

The former Union Minister also said that it was totally unjustifiable for a political party to demand scene cuts after it was censored by the CBFC and expressed his support for Mersal 's film crew. Tharoor concluded by saying that it is a democratic right to make films with social and political takes in it.
