TNTOA, muslim outfits about Vishwaroopam DTH

TNTOA & muslim outfits meetings about Vishwaroopam

TNTOA (Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association) and muslim outfits are independently meeting with their respective group members to discuss the plan of action against Vishwaroopam release. The respective groups are expected to announce their position within the next few days. Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan has gathered a lot of momentum that it will be almost difficult to obstruct the DTH release.

Vishwaroopam's Promotions full steam ahead

Kamal Haasan is busy touring all over India promoting Vishwaroopam and garnering support for his Vishwaroopam DTH plans. One of the big wins he accomplished is that he was able to strike a deal with all the major DTH providers in India, thereby giving access to almost 3 Crore active subscribers all over India. Out of which, if Kamal is able to convince even 1 in 20 households (~5% penetration) to watch the premiere show on DTH, the potential revenue before the first show is estimated roughly up to Rs. 100 Crores.

The biggest advantage of DTH plan is that it doesn't really matter what would be the word of mouth after the DTH show or potential religious controversies that may spark after the first show opens on big screens. DTH providers have also started launching massive quarter page advertisement promotions for Vishwaroopam DTH release on the first page of leading News Papers. Many Airtel phone subscribers are sending SMS message to their members prompting to sign-up.

North India and Telugu Markets

In Telugu, Vishwaroopam will be releasing simultaneously on Jan 11th. Dasari Narayana Rao who has control over many screens in Andhra is planning to give it a big release push. In the North, Balaji Telefilms' Ekta Kapoor is managing all the promotions activities.

Groups meeting against Vishwaroopam release

A few multiplexes in North and Trichy theatre owners down south are against the DTH idea. Similarly, Madurai-Ramanathapuram distributors Association are threatening to boycott the movie. However, Kamal's inner coterie appear to be confident that any shortcomings due to potential loss in theatrical revenues could possibly be overcome with the help of major DTH revenue.
