Mersal becomes first Tamil movie to get trademarked

Actor Vijay's upcoming movie Mersal sure has a strong marketing team and they are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the maximum reach for their film. Only recently, Mersal joined the league of twitter-emoji-existent films, thus becoming the first Tamil / South Indian movie to have so. Now, the film has added another feather, by becoming the first Kollywood / South Indian film to have its title trademarked. This means that of someone decides to use the term Mersal for their product or service, they would have to pay royalty to the trademark owners.

If one may recall, a similar trademark was attempted for the title of Dhanush's famous song "Why this Kolaveri Di" back in 2012. It is to be noted here that the process of trademarking, though far and few in the film industry is done to avoid imitations and will stop competitors from using the said title or phrase.
