Moondru Per Moondru Kadhal Music Review

Yuvan is back to his form with Vasanth's Moondru Per Moondru Kadhal. Director Vasanth has proved again that he has not lost his sense for music.  He was able to extract the best out of Yuvan. All songs have a fusion of various styles of music supported by foot-tapping beats and hummable melody. The songs are expected to get better with picturization.

  • Unakkagave Uyir Vaalgiren is sung by Yuvan in his characteristic style and effectively brings out the angst of love. Yuvan is more assured and his high pitch voice fits the song well. Yuvan sings "Touch by an..." in a heavily stylized accent that it is difficult to comprehend the lines.

  • Padapadakudhu Padapadakudhu is an interesting composition with a fusion of pop and rap. Blaaze raps in English alternating with Krish who sings the lyrical verses in Tamil. The repetitive Accordion loop is the highlight of the song that makes the song special. The swooshing song throughout the song should give the right cues for editor. The structure of the entire song and varying pace provide ample opportunity for some innovative picturization.

  • Mazhai Mazhai gives ample opportunity for Karthik to showcase his expressive voice. This melody number is strongly backed by fast beats and techno loops. Shweta Mohan provides the back-up support in this song for Karthik. Na. Muthukumar's excellent lyrics helps elevate the quality of this racy song.

  • Aaha Kadhal sung by Nandini Srikar is karnatic style melody solo number with a shade of 80s touch. The interludes reminds us of Ilayaraja's songs sometimes. Only downside is the song feels longer than the timeline actually suggests.

  • Kaadhal En Kaadhal by Neha Bhasin is another solo number with a neat setup reaching a high crescendo as song progresses. Neha Bhasin shoulders the song with her husky tone and high-pitched voice. Na. Muthukumar's lyrics explore the uncertainties of love. Nadaswaram and Morsing are used effectively.

  • Stop the Paatu is sung by singer composer Ramesh Vinayagam. Yuvan has given a blend of ethnic percussion and western beats. The song has distinctive tune in the charanams which may help look beyond the westernized kuthu mix.

Overall, this is what music fans have been longing for a while from Yuvan Shankar Raja. Most of the Moondru Per Moondru Kadhal songs will be able to stand-out during the ongoing busy music release season. It is difficult to envision how these post-modern songs will unfold on the screen given the casting choice of Arjun, Cheran and Vimal in the lead. Congrats to Yuvan, Na. Muthukumar and Vasanth for making a strong statement with this Must Listen album.
