Vishwaroopam with Auro 3D to release January 2013

Vishwaroopam postponed to January 2013

Confirming our news coverage that Vishwaroopam will not release on October 12 due to inability to finalize the distribution has been officially postponed to 2013. Using the additional time, Kamal Haasan is now planning to introduce Auro 11.1 3D sound format and use that to improve the selling proposition of the movie.

Auro 11.1 3D

Most theaters use 5.1 or 7.1 audio, which has three speakers in front, two on the side, and two in the back.  11.1 changes that up by putting up far more speakers at various heights in order to reproduce the audio dimension of height.  George Lucas's latest Red Tails, has made use of the Auro 3D technique. Kamal Haasan revealed that "Vishwaroop is converting to Auro 3D. So far has been tried in only one film and that was George Lucas' Red Tail. I am glad we're second to Lucas". Since Vishwaropam depicts intense bomb blast and combat scenes, it’s a good candidate to test out the 11.1 system in India.

50 Theatres  Changing to Auro 11.1

There are currently 20 screens in Chennai and another 20-25 theatres in Mumbai working on embracing the new sound technology and expected to be ready by January 2013. The success of Vishwaroopam will help build a case for other theatres to invest in doing this sound quality upgrade. This change is not expected to make any differences to the 1000+ conventional screens where Vishwaroopam will be released.
