Thaandavam Trailer Release and Review

Thaandavam trailer was released yesterday. The first version that was leaked out to the public was cluttered with so many watermarks on the trailer that it totally killed the viewing pleasure and negatively impacted the first reaction from public. UTV did the right thing by pulling back the trailer and releasing the official version today.

Presenting echolocation in Commercial Format

As first reported by MovieCrow, Thaandavam trailer explored a unique concept never before touched upon in Tamil cinema. The rare concept of echolocation and how a few blind people can use their ears to see things around them. Daniel Kish, who is known as the father of this technique has served as an advisor for this movie. It shows the commitment and research done by the team.

Vikram

Chiyaan Vikram has closely observed Daniel in close quarters to ensure that he accurately portrays the character. Vikram has never shied away from exploring such challenging roles. It is interesting to see Vikram has brought so much variation in terms of body language in this movie even though he had acted in a similar role of visually impaired person in Kaasi before.

Downsides

On the downside, as many pointed out, we feel the shots and background music didn't seem to gel well. The spectacularly shot London scenes against the backdrop of "udukkai" sound was a distraction. Vikram and Amy Jackson's characters seem to have registered well. But, rest of the star casts including Anushka, Jagapathy Babu, Lakshmi Rai and Santhanam were mere blips on the screen and disappeared before one could notice.

Thaandavam expectation heads north

For the director who did an extremely successful teaser trailer in Deivathirumagal and also Madarasapattinam, this one is a bit of a let-down as we can tell from the mixed reaction. Despite these mixed reactions to the teaser, we are confident that Thaandavam will be a delight to watch Vikram on the big screen, especially given the new concept of echolocation told in a revenge drama set in the backdrop of London. We whole-heartedly applaud the team for taking up such unique concept and successfully serve it in a commercial format.
