MovieCrow Box Office Report - January 22 to 24

As predicted by the trade experts, the crowded Pongal weekend at the box office has proved fatal for all the movies, except Sivakarthikeyan's Rajini Murugan. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend.

1. Rajini Murugan

Rajini Murugan grabbed all the bigger screens across multiplexes in the city, and the movie was the first choice of family audiences as well as youngsters in its second weekend. The movie, which has been declared a 'Hit' already, is all set for 5 more days of free run until new movies release.

2. Kathakali

Although the occupancy level of Kathakali increased after the positive reviews and word of mouth, it couldn't compete with Rajini Murugan's overwhelming response. Had the makers planned out a better release schedule, the movie could have shined better.

Other Movies

Bala's Tharai Thappattai lost a handful of shows in the city after the opening weekend and the support for the film has been diminishing among the movie buffs. Udhaystalin's Gethu couldn't strike the right chord with the audience and settles as a 'Below Average' flick at the box office.

Upcoming week's releases

Madhavan's Irudhi Suttru and Sundar C's Aranmanai 2 are all set to clash at the box office on January 29.
