Thadaiyara Thaaka Review

Raw and Engaging Action!!! - Thadayara Thaaka

Bharath Vijayakumar

Director Magizh Thirumeni's debut flick "Mun Dhinam Paartheney" was quite an enjoyable urban love story with newcomers. In his second outing the former assistant of Gautham Menon has changed tracks and delivered a raw action thriller that has you glued to your seats."Thadaiyara Thaaka" (TT) on the lines of "Polladhavan" and "Naan Mahan Alla" is about an ordinary man thrown into an extraordinary situation. There is an underlying tension right from the start of the film and the tempo is maintained throughout.

Plot

Arun Vijay is a hardworking youngster who runs a cab service. Things look bright for him both in his career and personal front. His wedding with his ladylove (played by Mamta Mohandas) is also fixed. But things turn topsy-turvy when he becomes the target of a group of gangsters in the city. Why are they hunting for him? Did he really cross their path? Or is he a scapegoat? The director keeps these questions unanswered until the later stages of the second half, successfully maintaining the suspense element for the most part. It is this thriller like treatment that makes TT stand apart from the other action flicks.

Cast & Performance

Arun Vijay comes up with a neat and powerful performance. His manly looks and well built frame make the stunt sequences quite believable. Mamta Mohandas seen after a brief hiatus in tamil is pretty. The love track is realistic and quite naughty. The villains (Vamsi Krishna and Maha Gandhi) in TT genuinely send a shiver down your spine. Guess we are bound to see them a lot in the future as well. Murugadoss as the hero's friend impresses with his subtle humour.

Music and Technical Crew

Thaman's music is an asset for the film. The melodious Kelamale is soothing. The songs are few. But he makes his presence felt in the BGM. While it is heartening to see just two songs in the movie, that one of them is an item number that jumps out of nowhere so early in the initial hour is baffling. Cinematographer Sukumar (of Myna fame) captures the mood of the film perfectly. The dark lighting at most places enhances the eerie feel of the film.

Bottomline

The violence in TT is raw and gory and makes your stomach churn at times. The film which comes with an  "A" certificate is definitely not for the light hearted. TT is definitely one of the better action flicks to have come out in recent times. If you can stomach some of the brutal violence shown, then TT will surely work for you. Magizh Thirumeni is a talent to watch out for!

Bottomline : Thadaiyara Thaaka is a must watch for those who love hardcore action.
