Vazhakku Enn 18/9 - SWOT Analysis
After the long delay, Vazhakku Enn 18/9 is ready to hit the theatres. Director Balaji Shakthivel's Kadhal is a huge trend setter as one can see clearly the difference in texture and tone of the movies that were made before and after Kadhal. From that perspective, Balaji Shakthivel is one of the directors who influenced the type of movies made during the last decade.
The ex-associate of Director Shankar made Samurai in his mentor's style due to trade pressures. The movie made average business and then he decided to stick to his guts by making Kadhal which was a runaway success. With his Kalloori, he lost the BO pull despite being critically acclaimed. Now, he is back with his straight from the heart movie in true Balaji Shakthivel's style. Thanks to the producers, UTV and Linguswamy's production house, to stand behind such meaningful attempts.
Strength
- Balaji Shakthivel
Weakness
- Music is not as popular as Kadhal or even Kalloori and don't think it is meant to be. In this movie, it appears the director intentionally played down the intrusion of commercial style music.
Opportunity
- Tamil audience have always been supporters of meaningful cinema backed by good screenplay. A number of well-made small time movies have worked out despite any known star casts or crew members (e.g., Mynaa, Kalavani, Angadi Theru, etc.). Our audience are sure to lap it up if the movie is good.
Threat
- Lack of Publicity - If the word of mouth is not big enough, the movie may get washed away before general public notices. So far, the word of mouth from the preview shows has been cautiously positive -- positive because of the impact it has left on the viewer, cautious because of the questions about the box office outcome.
One of the prominent personalities in the preview was popular director Balumahendra, who said the following about Vazhakku Enn 18/9 after watching the movie "தியேட்டரை விட்டு வெளியே வந்தவுடன் பாலாஜி சக்திவேலை தேடினேன். அவன் இல்ல. இருந்திருந்தா அவன் காலில் விழுந்திருப்பேன்!'
