3 Overseas Box Office Collection  

Box Office collections for "3" dropped drastically this weekend in the UK, USA and Malaysia. Even though "3" is clearly the highest grosser among all Dhanush movies, the distributors are not happy that Kolaveri didn't exactly translate to cha-chings. Dhanush who had made above average collections in his recent 5 movies was reportedly planning to take his salary in the same orbit as Ajith, Vijay and Suriya. The producers were in wait and watch as they wanted to wait for 3's verdict before doubling Dhanush's salary from his current level of Rs. 6 Crores. Based on the Box Office numbers, it appears Dhanush will have to wait for a few more years to break into the group of terrific trio.

Malaysia 

3(Three) opened at 17th spot in the Malaysia Box Office making $465,622 from 60 screens during the opening weekend. The 2nd weekend collections showed more than 50% drop as final numbers are still tabulated. 3 may become the first $1Million movie for Dhanush in Malaysia.

US and Canada

3 made $120,680 from 28 screens from the opening weekend at the US & Canada Box office. This weekend saw big declines due to poor word of mouth. To put things in perspective, Housefull 2 cracked the top 10 with $722,000 at 121 venues while Telugu Racha made $273,000 at 41 locations. 3's collection is roughly half of the collection made by recent Suriya, Vijay and Ajith's movie.

UK

3 made around GBP 45,095 during the opening weekend. Again, this is roughly 30% of the collection seen for Nanban (Vijay), Mankatha(Ajith) and 7aum Arivu (Suriya). 

Domestic and Hindi Market

In Domestic markets, the producers made very steep returns where they sold the rights to distributors. The distributors are expected to lose in these territories. Dhanush and Aishwarya own released the film in metro cities where decent profits have been made. The market value for Hindi has dropped substantially. It will be interesting to see if the '3' team can find a way to recreate the buzz.
