Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathile Music Review
Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathile's trailer was well received for its arresting visuals. The fresh sounds have made music fans take notice at this music album.
Oh Baby Girl
The song starts as a typical over-synthesized track, with Yuvan’s singing style! Yet, this becomes a catchy song after multiple listens. This might be the least appealing composition in this album with synthesizer sounds overpowering the lyrics.
Yaaro Ivalo
Beautiful melody, lyrics penned by Rohini and soulfully sung by Haricharan. The composer has experimented changing the pace, instruments and it actually works. This song can only grow on you with repeated listens.
Yaen Indha Dhideer Thirupam
The song starts with some neat guitar work, and the electric guitar is subtle but makes a statement. The song takes its time setting the mood. At about 1:50, the composer takes this song several notches higher with some brilliant guitar riffs later transforming to a wonderful fusion attempt. For those rock lovers, this is going to be your favorite track!
Nerathin Neram Ellam
Does remind you of the track from Iruvar (unnodu naan irundha). Nice recital by Narayan – deep, yet he manages to keep it light, almost teasing you.
Kadal Karaiyiley
Very versatile song, with some high notes and poignant tunes. One does see a lot of Rahman influence here, but music director Achu tries to brings his own touch.
En Uyire
Clearly, this song is meant to be the highlight of the album, with 3 versions, sung by Karthik, Chitra and Bombay Jayashree. With its soulful melody, this song is bound to reach a wide audience. It’s interesting that the composer has used the easy rhythms in one version with Veena interludes, a Reprise (Chitra) and the last one unplugged (BJ). Each version affects you in different ways making it hard to pick which one is better.
MPM Anthem
The composer hums his way to your heart with some captivating piano work.
Bottom-line: A very interesting album with some fresh sounds and lyrics. Recommended.
