MovieCrow Box Office Report - October 2 to 5

Jiiva's Yaan, directed by ace cinematographer Ravi K Chandran enjoyed a good solo opening last weekend, but the movie received thumbs down from the critics and audience alike. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend.

1. Madras

Director Ranjith's Madras was still ruling the box office in its second weekend, thanks to the overwhelming reviews and patronage from movie buffs. The movie has not only given Karthi a new lease of life, but also pulled back audience to the theatres.

2. Yaan

Most of the reviews and the audience associated Yaan with 'yawn', due to the monotonous and unexciting screenplay. Thanks to the 4-day long weekend, the movie managed to take a good opening. However, it has to be seen how the movie performs in the upcoming week.

3. Aranmanai

Sundar C's Aranmanai has been declared as a 'Hit' by the trade pundits. The movie has been doing well during weekends, thanks to the family audience, who don't want to miss this horror-comedy film.

Other Movies

Jeeva has been getting good occupancy levels at the multiplexes, while the single screens have given way to Yaan. Sigaram Thodu and Aadama Jaichomada couldn't compete with the new releases/biggies in spite of the encouraging reviews, thereby both the movies fell under 'Average' category.

Upcoming week's releases

It would be interesting to see if any major movie releases in the upcoming week, as the Diwali releases would take up all the screens in two weeks. As of now, many lesser known movies will be fighting it out to get released in the next two weeks.
