Karthi-starrer VaaVaathiyaar is once again in the spotlight, with the makers now planning an afternoon theatrical release on December 24, coinciding with Dr. MGR’s Birth Anniversary. However, the release hinges on Studio Green clearing all pending financial hurdles in the coming days.
Sources reveal that the film is bound by an OTT agreement with Amazon Prime Video, which reportedly mandates a December theatrical release. If the producer fails to resolve the financial issues within the stipulated time, the OTT deal could be cancelled, a move that may even result in the film missing its theatrical release altogether.
Directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, Vaa Vaathiyaar has faced multiple postponements in recent months. Initially slated for December 5, the film was first delayed due to technical reasons and later hit by a Madras High Court stay, following a case related to unpaid producer loans. A subsequent release date of December 12 was also shelved after a financier approached the court, seeking clearance of pending dues. The High Court ordered producer K. E. Gnanavel Raja to settle the outstanding amount and stayed the film’s release across all platforms until repayment is confirmed.
Vaa Vaathiyaar stars Karthi, Krithi Shetty, Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, among others, and is produced by Studio Green with Santhosh Narayanan composing the music. With December 24 now being targeted, all eyes are on whether the financial roadblocks can be cleared in time for the film to finally hit the big screens
