RKFI recently launched Thalaivar 173, bringing together Kamal Haasan as producer and Superstar Rajinikanth in the lead. Initially, director Sundar C was announced as part of the project. However, shortly after the launch, Sundar C issued a press statement confirming that he would no longer be involved with the film.

During recent press interaction, Kamal Haasan was asked about Sundar C’s exit and the status of the project. He responded with a clear explanation of his approach:

Kamal Haasan said, “As an investor, I choose a story my star connects with. We’ll keep searching until we find the perfect one. Another collaboration is also on the cards. Expect the unexpected.”

His statement indicates that RKFI will continue to work closely with Rajinikanth to lock the right script before proceeding. It also suggests that the production house has additional plans in development, hinting at more collaborations ahead (Which will have both Kamal Haaasan and Rajinikanth playing the lead role).

With the script still being finalised, RKFI is expected to announce the new director once the team identifies a story that satisfies both the star and the production house.
