Actress Gouri G Kishan has refused to accept the apology issued by YouTuber RS Karthik, calling it “performative” and lacking accountability, following the controversy over a body-shaming question at the Others film press meet. The controversy sparked an important reckoning on professionalism during film media interactions, and Gouri G Kishan by standing her ground is in no mood to let casual sexism in Tamil media culture slide. 

On November 6, 2025 (Thursday), RS Karthik, who had asked Gouri about her weight in reference to a scene form the film Others, later claimed his question was “just for fun”, and even claimed that it was suggested by the film's PR team.

Following the outpour of support for actress Gouri G Kishan, RS Karthik issued a video apology on November 8, 2025 (Saturday). On November 10, Monday, Gouri taking to her official X handle termed RS Karthik's apology as 'performative'. 

An apology without accountability isn’t an apology at all.
Especially when it’s brushed off with “she misunderstood the question — it was just a fun one,” or worse — “I didn’t body-shame anyone.”

Since the incident, the Chennai Press Club has condemned YouTuber RS Karthik's behaviour as 'highly unethical' and 'indecent'. Gouri G Kishan's Others co-lead Aditya Madhavan has apologised for remaining silent during the incident, explaining that as a newcomer, he was unsure how to intervene at a public event.
