Seven new Tamil movies are all set to hit theater screens on August 1, 2025, and here is a quick look at the Friday releases this week: 

1. House Mates (U) (Runtime: 2 hours 9 minutes)

Newly married Karthik (Darshan) and Anu (Aarsha Chandini Baiju) buy an old apartment to starts their life, but soon they begin witnessing strange things happening in the house. What they think it is an act of ghost, is later revealed as a shocking truth.

House Mates is written and directed by Rajavel, and jointly produced by Sivakarthikeyan, and S. Vijayaprakash under the banners Sivakarthikeyan Productions, Play Smith Studios, and South Studios. Early House Mates review point towards a clean entertainer with a refreshing concept. 

The movie also stars Kaali Venkat, Vinodhini Vaidynathan, Dheena, Kenrick Ashley, Abdool Lee, among others, with Rajesh Murugesan for music, M.S. Sathish for cinematography, A. Nishar Sharef for edits, and Bee Studios for VFX. 

2. Surrender (U/A) (Runtime: 2 hours 23 minutes)

With just five days until a big election, a police team (Tharshan, Lal), and a tough gangster (Sujith Shanker) find their lives dangerously tied together. Their conflict plays out with many twists, turns, and strong feelings, leading to a huge and unforgettable end.

An Upbeat Pictures production, Surrender is written, and directed by Gowthaman Ganapathy, and also stars  Munish Kanth, Padine Kumar among others. The technical crew of Surrender includes Vikas Badisa for music, Meyyendiran for cinematography, Renu Gopal for edits, and 'Action' Sandhosh for stunts. 

3. Chennai Files Muthal Pakkam (U/A) (Runtime: 2 hours 6 minutes)

Actor Vetri of 8 Thottakkal (2017) fame plays an unconventional cop in Muthal Pakkam, and the movie follows the police hunt for a serial killer (Magesh Das). Actress Shilpa Manjunath is the female lead in Muthal Pakkam, which is written and directed by Anish Ashraf, and produced by Sinnathambi Production. 

The movie also stars Thambi Ramaiah, Redin Kingsley, among others, and has music by AGR, cinematography by  Arvind, stunts by 'Action' Noor, and edits by  VS Vishal. 

4. Accused (U/A) (Runtime: 2 hours 14 minutes)

Kanakku (Udhaya) is being taken as a prisoner from Chennai's Puzhal prison to appear in Salem court by Vendhan (Ajmal), who is unaware of the power plays controlling his fate. Who is this prisoner, what did they do, and who are the people desperate to kill them is what Accused movie's story is. 

Produced by Jaeshan Studios Associate with Sachin Cinemas, Sri Dayakaran Cini Production, and Miy Studio,  Accused also stars Yogi Babu, Jhanvika Kalakeri, among others. The movie is written and directed by Prabhu Srinivas, with  Maruthanayagam.I for cinematography, Naren Balakumar for music, K.L Praveen for edits, and “Stunt” Silva for action. 

5. Mr. Zoo Keeper (U) (Runtime: 1 hour 56 minutes)

A devoted zookeeper (Pugazh), known for his deep bond with wild animals, suddenly finds himself entangled in a troubling encounter with law enforcement, forcing him to confront a reality far removed from the sanctuary he calls home.

A J4 studios production, Mr Zoo Keeper is directed by J.Suresh, with Yuvan Shankar Raja for music, Thanvir Mohidin for cinematography, Asseb for edits, Pratheep Dinesh for action, and Nxgen Media for VFX. 

6. Bhoghee (U/A) Runtime (1 hour 53 minutes)

In a remote mountain village cut off from basic healthcare, Alaghar (Nabi Nanthi) dreams of making his sister Kavitha (Swasika Vijay) a doctor. She excels against all odds, but when she travels to Chennai for college, her journey ends in tragedy. Bhoghee is the story of what went wrong in a city at the peak of technological advancement.

A production venture of Vi Cinema Global Networks and LIKE, Bhoghee is written and directed by Vijayasekaran S, and also stars Sharath, Poonam Kaur, Vela Ramamurthy, Sangili Murukan, Motta Rajenthiran, M.S.Bashkar, Murustar, among others. 

The technical crew of Bhoghee includes Mariya Mandgar for music,  Raja C Sekar for cinematography, Anbariv for action, Suresh Urs for edits, S. T. Sureshkumar for dialogues, and  Infinity media for VFX. 

7. Usurae (U/A) (Runtime: 2 hours 4 minutes)

In the culturally rich town of Chittoor, simple Raghava (Teejay Arunasalam) falls for the spirited MBA student Ranjana (Janany Kunaseelan). But winning her heart means facing her overprotective mother, Anusuya (Raasi), a woman known for her fierce and intimidating nature. 

What begins as a daring challenge among friends soon blossoms into true love, forcing Raghava to navigate intense emotional trials and confront Anusuya's formidable dominance. A Shree Krishna Productions venture, Usurae is written and directed by Naveen D Gopal. 

The movie also stars 'Crane' Manohar as Subramani, Senthil Kumari as Nagamma, Adithya Kathir as Eka, Thangadurai as Subbu, 'Supergood' Subramani as Amara, and Pavel Navageethan as Latchee. Usurae has Kiran Joze for music, Mukunthan Seevarathinam aka Marcki Sai for cinematography, Ram Kumar for stunts, and Mani Maran for edits.
