Why Vaadivaasal was dropped - Vetrimaaran explains

Vaadivaasal is a long-mulled project of director Vetrimaaran's that was announced in 2019 with actor Suriya in the lead, under Kalipuli S Thanu's V Creations. For 6 years Vaadivaasal remained in production hell, and it was revealed earlier this month that actor Suriya has moved on for good from the movie.

Vetrimaaran is now set to direct actor Silambarasan under Thanu's V Creations banner. While speaking on his new film in a recent interview, Vetrimaaran also revealed why Vaadivaasal, a movie based on the bull-taming sport Jallikattu, was dropped.

"My next film is has Silambarasan TR as the lead act and Thanu Sir producing. Vaadivaasal, as always has been delayed because of my writing. There are some technical aspects, safety measures, artist-safety aspects, everyone's safety, even animal safety that is causing extra delay, and because we couldn't wait for too many days, we thought we'd do this (STR movie). It was Thani Sir's idea. He asked me if I would be interested in meeting Simbu Sir. I did. And within a few hours, everything fell in place."

Vetrimaaran's film with Silambarasan TR is set in the same universe as Vada Chennai (2018) which was jointly produced by Lyca Productions and Dhanush's Wunderbar Films. Vetrimaaran has revealed that producer Dhanush who was also the lead act in Vada Chennai has given his clearance for the sequel starring Silambarasan TR to be made outside his banner.
