Tamil star actor Vijay recently turned 51 on June 21, 2025 and marking the occassion the first glimpse of his upcoming movie Jana Nayagan was unveiled under the title 'The First Roar'. KVN Productions, the banner behind Jana Nayagan announced on Monday that the video has garnered 32.4M+ cumulative digital views in the first 24 hours, making it the glimpse video with the highest views in Tamil cinema.
Jana Nayagan is written and directed by H. Vinoth, and for the longest time, it has been buzzed that the film is an official remake of the Telugu action drama Bhagavanth Kesari (2023). Vijay's police officer avatar in Jana Nayagan - The First Roar being eerily similar to 'Nelakonda Bhagavanth Kesari', the circle inspector character actor Nandamuri Balakrishna played in the Telugu film, solidifies this information.
Bhagavanth Kesari written and directed by Anil Ravipudi, follows the story of an ex-cop turned prisoner, who upon release from jail becomes the guardian of his friend's daughter. Why this cop left the squad and ended in jail, and how he manages to get his friend's daughter interested in joining the Indian Army, as per her late father's wish, is what forms the rest of the movie.
Actress Mamitha Baiju is said to be playing the friend's daughter in Jana Nayagan, while villain Arjun Rampal's role is reprised by Bobby Deol in the Tamil version. Pooja Hegde who plays female lead is reprising the doctor role from the original, and is also Vijay's love interest in Jana Nayagan.
Bhagavanth Kesari is currently available to stream on the Amazon Prime Video and Jio Hotstar OTT platforms. A Tamil dubbed version of the movie is often telecast on the Zee Thirai channel. Jana Nayagan on the other hand releases in theaters on January 9, 2026 marking Pongal.
