The tragic stampede that took place during the cup celebration of IPL cricket team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), has not just left Karnataka in mourning but the entire nation in a state of shock. The Indian Premiere League (IPL) is a fan-favourite men's Twenty20 (T20) cricket league in India.
RCB is one of the 10 franchise teams, that plays in the IPL. Since professional cricket players from all around the world participate in this popular sports league, IPL enjoys a huge fan base and media coverage in the country. Royal Challengers Bangalore lifted their maiden IPL trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat after defeating 'Punjab Kings XI' on June 3, 2025 (Tuesday).
Since the win was coming after for RCB's participation of 18 years, a victory parade was arranged by the RCB team's management on June 4, 2025 (day) in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This is despite Bengaluru police denying permission for such a massive gathering, and the IPL governing council having no knowledge of the parade's organization. A combination of miscommunication, lack of coordination and no safety protocols in adherence, lead to a tragic stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, leading to 11 deaths and multiple injuries.
While the doctors attributed all the 11 deaths to asphyxia, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instituted a magisterial inquiry into the event. The Kannada CM has also announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh to the family of the deceased, and free treatment to 33 injured people who are currently hospitalized.
Tamil actor, politician Kamal Haasan, who was recently at logger-heads with Karnataka over a Kannada language row that resulted in the ban of his movie Thug Life's release in the state, took to X to express his condolences to the Chinnasawamy stadium stampede.
Heart wrenching tragedy in Bangalore. Deeply distressed and my heart reaches out to the families of the victims in this moment of grief. May the injured recover soon.

Close to midnight, Kamal Haasan took to X to stand in solidarity with the grieving families, and wrote, "Heart wrenching tragedy in Bangalore. Deeply distressed and my heart reaches out to the families of the victims in this moment of grief. May the injured recover soon." It is worth mentioning here that the Indian public across the nation has strongly condemned RCB, and the Karnataka's ruling government for letting such a tragedy occur, and for completely sidelining the importance of human lives.
The same issue in Mumbai. They were lucky, no lives were lost

It shouldn’t have happened in any state! That’s the point.

Do human lives don’t matter? Whether it is Kumbh Mela or Tirupati or Delhi Railway Station or Chinnaswamy stadium - lives are lost and those responsible need to be held accountable. https://t.co/KvfJfzfV80
Suspend RCB for 5 years from IPL..

Enjoy cinema,Watch sports,Vote for the least corrupt politician but stop idolising them.
Celebrities mind their business. They take care of themselves & their families. People should do too !
Irrespective of state or language, the common consensus is that India as a country lacks abysmally when it comes to crowd management, or worse taking responsibility and accountability.
