Retro: BTS comic reveals how the Suriya 44 first shot was filmed

Retro starring Suriya in the lead is an upcoming gangster action written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj. The movie is a joint production venture of Suriya's 2D Entertainment, and Karthik Subbaraj's Stone Bench Films. In an out-of-the-box promotional strategy, the filmmakers are revealing behind-the-scenes of Retro as comic strips.

Episode 1 of the Retro BTS comic dropped on Monday, along with this official description:

• Kicking Off "Retro" in Style!

Forget the usual pooja ceremony or predictable promo videos—Karthik Subbaraj wanted something totally unique. So, the team went all out and shot a single, high-impact scene to announce Retro. No fluff, just pure cinematic punch. And guess what? Fans went crazy for it!

• Rain or Shine, the Shot Had to Happen!

The first glimpse of Retro was shot in insane rain. The weather didn’t cooperate, but the team didn’t back down either. Every single technician and artist gave it their all, and Suriya sir? Absolute legend—nailed the shot in just one take!

• From Camera to Fans in No Time!

The team didn’t just shoot the footage—they finished it right there on location! DI work? Done in a flash. And before anyone could blink, the final video was ready to go. No delays, no last-minute panic—just smooth, efficient work.

• Santhosh Narayanan: The Speedster!

Busy with Kalki 2898 AD? No problem! SaNa still made time for Retro because, well, it’s Suriya + Karthik Subbaraj! He got the file at 3 PM, cooked up a killer retro theme in record time, and delivered it by 5 PM. Talk about a musical beast!

• Andaman’s Internet Had Other Plans…

Now, here’s where things got tricky. The video was ready before 6 PM, but Andaman’s internet? Absolute disaster. The team struggled, tried every trick in the book, and after hours of frustration, they finally got it uploaded at 8 PM. Not exactly on time, but hey—better late than never, right?

And that’s how Retro’s first glimpse went from a crazy idea to a full-blown sensation! 🚀🔥
