The Tamil film industry, also known as Kollywood is a regional movie industry in India, which saw its first Rs. 300 Cr. box-office with the movie Enthiran in 2010. Enthiran lead by star actor Rajinikanth was also the first Tamil film to cross the Rs. 250 Cr. box-office collection worldwide. It took six years for another Rajinikanth movie Kabali (2016) to cross the Rs. 250 Cr. gross, and only a handful of Tamil movies have even managed to enter the coveted 300 Cr. club.
Amaran starring Sivakartthikeyan in the lead is the latest Tamil film to achieve the Rs. 300 Cr. global box-office, and with only three weeks of theatrical run. Sivakarthikeyan joins the likes of Rajinikanth (2.0, Jailer, Enthiran), Kamal Haasan (Vikram), and Vijay (Leo, The Greatest of All Time, Bigil) in being the select Tamil stars with a 300 Cr. film to their name.
