Nithil Saminathan directed Maharaja starring actor Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, is a Tamil language revenge thriller that premiered in theaters on June 14, 2024. Maharaja received critical praise for the serious subject matter it handled, but also received brickbats for depicting sexual violence with no sensitivity, or ironically employing the services of lyricist Vairamuthu, who has been named and shamed by one too many women in the '#MeToo' movement. 

All said, Maharaja is one of the Tamil releases this year that did well at the box-office. The film is currently available to steam on the Netflix OTT platform, in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu languages with English subtitles. At this time, it has been officially announced that Maharaja is gearing up for a wide theatrical release in China. 

Maharaja's China release date is November 29, 2024. Yi Shi Films along with Alibaba Pictures will release the movie in around 40000 shows or more, this Black Friday. Maharaja follows the story of a barber who seeks help from the police when a prized possession of his gets stolen. The police who initially jeer at his request, show interest until they learn what they're really looking for.
