Following Nayanthara's open letter to actor Dhanush slamming him for not issuing an NOC over Naanum Rowdy Dhaan movie footages in her Netflix documentary Nayantara: Beyond The Fairytale, Dhanush's friend in the industry, and producer SS Kumaran has come out with a counter claim against Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan.
One of director Vignesh Shivan's long awaited movie is LIC, which was initially supposed to be made with Sivakarthikeyan and Lyca Productions. Apparently, SS Kumaran held the title under his production and Wikki had approached SS Kumaran for permission to use the title. SS Kumaran claims that he politely declined, but Vignesh Shivan went and used it anyway.

LIC was dropped by Sivakarthikeyan and Lyca, and later revived by 7 Screen Studio with actor Pradeep Ranganathan in the lead. However the film's title was officially changed to Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) before it went on floors, over legal objections from Life Insurance Corporation, an insurance brand that is has been long synonymous with the acronym LIC in India.
SS Kumaran has now slammed Vignesh Shivan for still attempting to use LIC as a film title. Parts of SS Kumaran's letter to Nayanthara read,
“Dhanush has served you a legal notice for using three seconds of footage without his permission. However, your husband has used the title LIC for his even though he knew that it was registered under my production house. He asked me for permission through someone and I had not granted it. Still, he went ahead and marketed the film as LIC. How do you justify this?
In which God’s forum is Vignesh Shivan going to reply to this?
You patiently waited for two years for permission from someone who was more powerful than you to use that footage but you trampled all over me as I’m a small producer. That has really upset me and you need to answer for that in a God’s forum. I have gone through so much emotional turmoil and pain because of what you did and it has affected my film also,
Every filmmaker spends time and money on his films and if you want to use anything for your business purposes, you need to understand that you need to take permission legally and through correct procedures. You are not doing anything for free but you are trying to use our footage/title for free which is a terrible trend you and your husband are trying to set in the film industry.”
