The Greatest of All Time starring Vijay in the lead is gearing up for a September 5 release in theaters in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi languages. Known as The GOAT in Tamil, Telugu and GOAT in Hindi, the movie produced by AGS Entertainment is touted to be a sci-fi action thriller, with time travel as a key element. 

Opening up about the peculiar choice of the film's title, The GOAT movie's writer director Venkat Prabhu said in an interview, "When I first started the project, I had named it Gandhi (name of father Vijay's character in The Greatest of All Time). When I couldn't get Gandhi for the title, (I thought) who is Gandhi? The greatest of all time. That is how the title The Greatest Of All Time came about."  

Venkat Prabhu also said he found the title to be trendy since he had seen the usage of the GOAT term among sports fans. "For every fan, their respective hero is the greatest of all time. When it comes to this movie, the character Gandhi is the greatest of all time", the filmmaker added. "Vijay sir is in the peak of his (film) career, and this film comes as an almost farewell (The GOAT is Vijay's penultimate movie before he enters politics full time) to him. I found this title apt for such instance", concluded Venkat Prabhu.   

A multi-starrer with Yuvan Shankar Raja for music, The Greatest of All Time is releasing on the Teacher's day Thursday in India, taking full advantage of the Vinayagar Chathurthi (Saturday) weekend. However September 5 wasn't the original planned release date of The GOAT.

Venkat Prabhu had wanted a October 10 Dussehra release for The Greatest of All Time, and had that happened Vijay's movie would have clashed with Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan at the box-office. However AGS Entertainment wanted The Greatest of All Time to release as early as June 22, 2024 (Vijay's 50th birthday) or August 15, 2024 (Independence day). But with only four months of prepartion, the filmmakers settled on September 5 as The GOAT's release date.
