As reported previously, actor Vijay paid a visit to the Kallakurichi district along with his manager Bussy Anand, to meet those hospitalized from consuming spurious liquor sold illegally sold in the Tamil Nadu region. The incident dubbed 'Kallakurichi hooch tragedy' has taken as many as 51 lives as on Friday, and Vijay last evening met with the families affected at the hospitals, and offered them consolation.

Vijay is expected to be making his big political debut in 2026, and currently he has founded a political party named Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). The actor-politician who is turning 50 on June 22, 2024 has instructed TVK workers to assist both the survivors and the families of the deceased in Kallakurichi, instead of focusing on Vijay's birthday celebrations.

Vijay was also the first actor from Tamil Cinema to condemn the ruling state government, and the administration responsible for the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy. He sent out a tweet via the handle of his TVK political party, calling the incident 'shocking and heartbreaking'.
