A fortnight ago, MovieCrow had reported that an official word on Thangalaan's release date wasn't coming out owing to a cancelled satellite rights sale by the Sun TV network. More recently we reported on the buzz that Thangalaan starring Vikram in the lead, is gearing up for an Independence day release on August 15, 2024 [Thursday]. However makers Studio Green and Neelam Productions haven't made an official announcement, once again due the satellite rights deal with Sun TV. 

MovieCrow hears that when Sun TV first came on board, the price being offered for Thangalaan's satellite rights was Rs. 35 Cr. This was back when Thangalaan was officially scheduled to hit theater screens on republic day i.e. January 26, 2024, and then in April, 2024 for Tamil New Year. 

However Sun TV's offer has since for Thangalaan's satellite rights has since dropped to a price range of Rs. 22 - Rs. 25 Cr, causing a major hindrance in the release of the Pa. Ranjith directed film. As a result, the makers are currently looking into whether or not the sale of Thangalaan's overseas distribution rights, can help then compensate the gap.  

The new Thangalaan's release date will be officially announced, only when makers sort this out.
