Director Elan's Star with actor Kavin in the lead released in theaters worldwide on May 10, 2023, and the movie managed to record a Rs. 3.1 Cr. opening day collection at the Tamil Nadu box-office. Star's opening weekend collections i.e. gross from May 10 [Friday] to May 13 [Sunday], is estimated to be around Rs. 10. 25 Cr. in Tamil Nadu, and Rs. 11. 25 Cr. in India. 

For a film of its size and backing, Star movie's collections are pretty decent. On Monday, director Elan sent out a note penned from his desk, acknowledging the performance of Star in theaters, and its reception among Tamil cine audience. The letter read, 

 

"STAR
First day show, a young man came running to me and asked, 'can I give you a hug you?' That one moment for me was love.

 
A husband and wife, unmoved in the theaters, just wept and cried their hearts out that made me teary too. Those tears for me is love.

 
The janitor at the cinema hall pulled my cheek and wanted to take off the jinx and nazar, which felt like the love of my mother. That for me was love.

 
In many places, the applause and cheers felt like love you.

 
I have gone one step ahead and braver in my work and life, by the way the climax was received by the audience.

 

 
When the credits roll, we often see people moving out, but what I saw was a lover refusing to leave his sweetheart. Their love was love for me.

 
Some (many) criticism help me thrive and mold into a better artist.
