Titled after a 1992 gangster action starring Karthik, Amaran starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead is an upcoming actioner based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan AC, who lost his life at the 2014 Shopian terrorist encounter. Amaran's OTT rights are with Netflix, and the movie is scheduled to make its post-theatrical digital premiere in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi languages.

MovieCrow hears Amaran's OTT sale to the Netflix streaming platform was closed for a record high price of Rs. 60 Cr. This is the highest price paid for the streaming deal for a Sivakarthikeyan film. Amaran is jointly produced by Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International and Sony Pictures Films India.
