On January 12, 2024 i.e. the Friday before Pongal/Sankranthi holidays, theaters in Tamil Nadu (TN) will screen atleast six new movies, two of which are direct Tamil films. Movie theaters in Tamil Nadu can begin their first shows only by 9 AM according to the state rules, and are allowed to screen only 4 shows per day unless it is the weekend or a government holiday.

On January 12, 2024 around three films - Dhanush's Captain Miller, Sivakarthikeyan's Ayalaan and Mahesh Babu starrer Guntur Kaaram (Telugu) will have their first day first show (FDFS) at 9 AM.

6. Hanuman (Teja Sajja, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Vinay Rai - Telugu) - 11 AM

The remaining three January 12 releases - Mission - Chapter 1 starring Arun Vijay, Vijay Sethupathi, Katrina Kaif starrer bilingual Merry Christmas and mythological movie Hanuman (Telugu), are expected begin their first shows at theater owners' preferred timing of 11 AM, which helps them space four shows covering morning, matinee and night.
