Vijayakanth laid to rest with Tamil Nadu state honours

Popular actor turned politician and former DMDK chief Vijayakanth passed away on at 6: 10 AM on thursday [December 28, 2023], and his mortal remains have now been buried at the privately owned Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party office land in Koyambedu, Chennai. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK Chief MK Stalin, who had previously paid a visit to the actor's residence to pay his respects, showed up on Friday [December 29, 2023] to send off Vijayakanth with state honours.

MK Stalin was joined by his son, and Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports Development of Tamil Nadu - Udhayanidhi Stalin. Opposition party representatives like AIADMK's B. Jeyakumar, O Paneer Selvam, Puducherry Lieutenant governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, among others were also notably present during Vijayakanth's last rites.

71 year old Vijayakanth's death left scores of people in Tamil Nadu in mourning, and from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Tamil Nadu Governor, many state leaders and office bearers had expressed their condolences both in person and on social media.
