Mutlti-starrer Thalapathy 68 with actor Vijay in the lead is an upcoming Venkat Prabhu directorial, and a production venture of AGS Productions. The movie is currently in shooting stage, and previously it was suggested that the film is based sci-fi concepts like time travel and artificial intelligence (AI). 

It has also been suggested before that Vijay will be seen in dual roles of father and son, with the two characters being in a face-off situation, and one of them being a RAW intelligence agent. 

Hollywood film Looper, which is a sci-fi action thriller starring Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emily Blunt among others, revolves around 2044 contract killers hired by criminal syndicates from 2074 to terminate victims whom they send back through time. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a looper aka a contract killer named Joe, and the movie revolves around how him and his older version from the future (Bruce Willis) alter history.

Owing to the similarities in troupes, it has now been clarified that Thalapathy 68 is a not a remake of this 2012 American hit. Latest Thalapathy 68 update however suggests that Vijay will be seen playing a grey shaded lead character, much like Joseph Gordon Levitt and Bruce Willis' in Looper. 

Thalapathy 68 comes with the tagline 'A Venkat Prabhu Puzzle'. The movie's ensemble cast includes actors Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Sneha, Laila, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Mohan (villain), Jayaram, Ajmal Amir, Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh, Vaibhav Reddy, Premgi Amaren, Arvind Akash, Ajay Raj among others.

The technical crew of this film includes Yuvan Shankar Raja for music, Madan Karky for lyrics, Sidhhartha Nuni for cinematography, Dhilip Subbarayan for stunts and Venkat Raajen for edits. T-series music label holds Thalapathy 68's audio rights.
