Mayakkam Enna Preview

Dhanush joins his brother Selvaraghavan for the fourth time for Mayakkam Enna. Their last venture, Pudupettai, was not a big hit. But, it earned cult status among Selva and Dhanush fans. Now the brothers are back with 'Mayakkam Enna' after 5 years which has created good expectations.

The movie has been buzzing since its inception. The movie had to go through fits and starts with number of changes to cast and crew. This was Selva's first with G.V.Prakashkumar. The songs which were released couple of months ago are already a rage. Kaadhal En Kaadhal and Voda Voda are still popular in the music channels.  These 2 songs paved the way for Dhanush by providing necessary confidence for the creation of Kolaveri song.

Strength

• One of the few directors in Tamil who still ensure an opening from the extremely loyal fan base
• Selvaraghavan's signature style of hard-hitting movies that could leave a lump in your throat or make you lose your sleep
• Dhanush's recent avatar as poetu and singer through Kolaveri has boosted his brand value
• Songs are already big hits and they are expected to get bigger with meaningful picturization one can expect from Selva

Weakness

• It is highly unlikely that family audience will show up for this movie
• Selvaraghavan brand of movies have not been appealed to the female audience unless there is a strong word of mouth
• Promotions have been very mellowed and the team had not truly capitalized on the initial buzz created after the music launch

Opportunity

• Solo release with no major Tamil/Hindi/English movies

Threat

• Osthe and Poraali will be releasing next week. Even if either one of them turns out big, it is difficult to stay on top of people's minds

• Limited release strategy and over-reliance on word of mouth in the piracy era could turn out to be risky for overall Box Office performance 

What's the word so far?

People who have watched the preview shows are cautious in extending their appreciation for Mayakkam Enna. Selva appears to have made this movie straight from the heart.
