Maamannan written and directed by Mari Selvaraj of Pariyerum Perumal (2018), Karnan (2021) fame is all set to release in theaters worldwide from June 29, 2023. The Tamil movie, a serious political drama stars Udhayanidhi Stalin, Vadivelu, Fahadh Faasil, and Keerthy Suresh in lead roles and all eyes are on how this fresh ensemble combination has pulled off the story in question.

Team Maamannan has been on a promotional spree in recent times and the actors, to an extent have revealed details about their respective characters. Udhayanidhi Stalin in his last role as an actor has played a character named Athiveeran, who is not on speaking terms with his father owing to a harrowing incident during his childhood. 

Vadivelu has played the titular character in Maamannan, and he takes on a the role of a respected Dalit personality with an unjust past, and he tries to expose a budding corrupt politician of his town. When asked how he transformed into an all-serious act, Vadivelu said that in his own personal life the actor has risen to where he is from absolutely nothing. So he didn't have to 'act out' his part; rather he could relate to the trials and tribulations of his character and just had to re-live it on screen.  

Mari Selvaraj added that Vadivelu in general has always represented the trials and tribulations of a person with no power in comedy. The difference in Maamannan is that he has performed it in serious mode. Keerthy Suresh has said that she plays a communist, non-feminine role, which travels all through the movie like the hero's friend character. Her character is named Samba.
